Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools (Alliance) is one of the largest and best performing charter networks in California. Since launching its first school in 2004, Alliance has expanded to 20 schools serving 8,500 students, 93% of which are from low income families. The Low Income Investment Fund (LIIF) provided $5.5 million in financing as part of a $21 million transaction for a new campus for two Alliance schools. The investment in the new Alliance campus will create 59 permanent jobs and prepare students for success in college and the workplace. At full capacity, the schools will have more than 1,000 students in grades 6 - 12. The new site is located in the Lincoln Heights area of Los Angeles, where 19% of residents are unemployed and only 53% of residents 25 and older have high school diplomas.

With the loan, Alliance will construct a 50,000-square-foot site campus to relocate and expand a middle school and open a new high school. The new high school will use Alliance’s pioneering BLAST model (Blended Learning for Alliance School Transformation), a teaching model that incorporates traditional classroom time with technology to enhance and customize the educational experience for each student. The construction of the site is underway and will employ 70 construction workers. The campus will be built to meet the Los Angeles County Cal Green Code and is scheduled to open for the fall 2012 school year.
